Pahadi food delivered to Haldwani

हल्द्वानी में अपनी पसंद की पहाड़ी दुकान से सीधा सामान मँगाइए।

Haldwani is where the roads of Kumaon come down to the plains, and a good deal of hill produce passes through its markets on the way somewhere else. Still, finding a particular shop's ghee, or a loon from a family in Almora or Pithoragarh, is not always easy in the bazaar.

Here you can choose the shop as well as the product. Each shop lists what it makes, from bal mithai to madua, gahat and bhang ki chutney, and sends it down itself; the product page says which shop it is and where. Cash on delivery is offered where the shop has turned it on.

Ghughutiya and Haldwani

Haldwani is Kumaoni country, and Ghughutiya is kept here as it is in the hills: ghughute fried from flour and jaggery, garlands for the children, and the call to the crows the next morning. Uttarayani melas are held across the region around Makar Sankranti. In July comes Harela, when the sprouted seven grains are cut and the season's planting begins.

Keeping hill food in Haldwani

Haldwani has a hot, humid bhabar summer, much warmer than the hills above it, and a heavy monsoon. Ghee will be liquid from April onwards; that is fine. Keep pickles in their oil and out of the sun, and through the rains keep flours in the fridge and loon in a tightly sealed jar.
