Pahadi food delivered to Pune

पुणे में पढ़ाई और काम के बीच, घर के पहाड़ी खाने की कमी पूरी।

Pune draws people from all over the country for study and work, and many of them arrive with a suitcase of food from home that runs out within a month. When it does, there is usually nowhere in the city to buy more of the same.

This site is the refill. Family shops in Kumaon and Garhwal list the things a hostel room or a first flat can actually use: pisyu loon for rice and curd, a jar of achaar, hill honey, Almora bal mithai, roasted bhatt for snacking, and dals for when there is a kitchen. Each shop packs its own order. The product page says if the item is sent to your PIN and if cash on delivery is available.

Ghughutiya and Pune

Pune marks Makar Sankranti with tilgul, the sesame and jaggery sweets passed around with a request to speak sweetly. In Kumaon, the day is Ghughutiya, when ghughute made from flour and jaggery are fried and strung into garlands for the children, who call the crows in the morning. Both are about jaggery and sharing, and either is a good reason to send a box of hill sweets home.

Keeping hill food in Pune

Pune's climate is milder than most, but the monsoon brings weeks of damp. From June to September keep loon, spices and flours sealed and in the coolest corner of the room, and close pickle jars tightly. Ghee and honey usually stay soft through the year.
